Education
Infographic from Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Point 4 on Quality Education illustrates the challenges faced in achieving global education goals. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the world had already missed achieving education targets. It is stated in the infographic that only one in six countries will achieve SDG4 and achieve universal access to quality education. It is estimated that as many as 84 million children and young children will still be out of school, and around 300 million students still do not have the basic reading and writing skills needed to succeed in life. Although school graduation rates are increasing year by year, progress is slowing and global learning rates do not show progress, especially when looking at reading levels at the end of primary school. Enrollment rates in pre-school education also remain stagnant, far from the target of ensuring that all boys and girls have access to quality pre-school education by 2030. Among youth and adults aged 15-64 years, participation in formal and non-formal education and training remains low, while school infrastructure remains far from adequate, with more than a quarter of primary schools globally lacking access to basic services such as electricity, drinking water and basic sanitation facilities. Finally, there are still many teachers who do not meet the qualifications according to national norms in 2020, indicating the need for greater efforts to improve the overall quality of education.
